Abstract

The study explores transformative strategies for advancing sustainable finance through the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into financial decision-making frameworks. Using a mixed[1]methods approach involving quantitative data and qualitative insights from selected African financial institutions, the study investigates the impact of ESG compliance on long-term profitability, investment behaviour and regulatory alignment. Findings demonstrate that financial systems embracing ESG frameworks not only foster responsible investment, but also enhance institutional resilience and market competitiveness. The study proposes a Sustainable Finance Integration Model (SFIM) to guide financial institutions, policymakers and investors in harmonising profitability with sustainability. Recommendations include targeted ESG policy design, institutional capacity building and ESG-linked performance evaluation mechanisms.
