Author Biography

    Ellen Sithole has a Doctorate in Law (SJD), a Master of Laws (LLM) and two Bachelor degrees (BL and LLB) in law from the University of Toronto (1997), York University (Canada, 1991) and the University of Zimbabwe (1986 and 1987) respectively. Her publications include books, book chapters and journal articles on women’s access to justice, civil procedure, women and care giving in the context of HIV and AIDS, human rights and civic action and on gender, human rights and water governance.

    Ellen Sithole is the Senior Director, Internal Legal, Policy and Internationalisation Services at Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) and previous Dean of Law (November 2020 to September 2023). Prior to that she was a lecturer in the Department of Procedural Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zimbabwe and she is also a former Deputy Dean of the Faculty. She taught civil procedure to undergraduate students and occasionally lectured to and supervised dissertations of postgraduate students on the Masters in Women’s Law programme run by the Southern and Eastern African Regional Centre for Women’s Law (SEARCWL). She co-supervised a PhD student whose study focused on women’s right to water. She served as a Commissioner and Deputy Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) for ten (10) years (March 2010 to May 2020).
